Former Mexican world champion Rodolfo Martínez has passed away.
Rodolfo Martínez Estrada, born on August 24, 1948, was a prominent Mexican professional fighter. He was a former NABF bantamweight champion and World Boxing Council world champion in the same division.
Rodolfo was the eldest of the six children of Alfonso Martínez and Angelina Estrada. In June 1972 he won his first NABF championship by knocking out Octavio Gomez. His first shot at the WBC championship was against Rafael Herrera, but he lost by technical knockout. In the twelfth round.
On December 7, 1974, Martínez took revenge and the Championship by knocking out Rafael Herrera in the fourth round. Rodolfo would make four title defenses until he lost to an undefeated Hall of Famer, Mexican Carlos Zarate.
