The World Boxing Council mourns the death of Gerardo Valtierra, a renowned and greatly admired Mexican sports journalist.
Gerardo joined Televisa in 1985, he was a reporter and commentator especially for Soccer. He participated in the coverage of World Cups in Mexico ’86, Italy ’90, United States ’94 and France ’98.
Later he was assigned to cover various international events in Europe, so he lived in Spain. In his last stage at Televisa, he held the position of Coordination and Head of Information. Recently via Facebook, he presented a sports program with Gerardo Liceaga, a partner for many years at Televisa. He was a survivor of the 1985 earthquake in which he was trapped for a few hours, due to the fall of the antenna and facilities of Televisa Chapultepec in Mexico City.
The entire WBC family and its President Mauricio Sulaimán, send our deepest condolences to the Valtierra family and many friends.
We have lost a great and wonderfully intelligent, as well as superbly entertaining journalist… and also a great friend plus a loyal colleague and so memorable human being.
Rest In Peace Dear Gerardo.
