The WBC and Canelo Alvarez join the Government of Mexico in promoting sports

In the “Mañanera”, the traditional press conference offered by the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, she received the visit of the multiple champion Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez, Mauricio Sulaimán, President of the WBC; and Andrés Sulaimán.

Dr. Sheinbaum received from the WBC a world champion belt signed by Canelo, in recognition of her career and the boost she has given to the sport. “On behalf of the entire boxing community in Mexico and around the world, I congratulate you, Madam President, because you are the women’s champion, the world champion, the champion of peace, and it all started many years ago because when we had our annual convention, you opened the convention to the whole world and from that moment on, all WBC members from 178 countries took a little piece of Claudia with them in their hearts,” said Mauricio.

The WBC President recalled that, after Sheinbaum’s approach to the sport, a massive boxing class was held in the Zócalo of Mexico City, with a large attendance.
After the success obtained, the same massive class was held the following year, and both editions broke the Guinness record, thus leading Mauricio to ask the federal president for the opportunity to replicate this class at a national level simultaneously.

“I would like to ask you to support us to do another class, but at a national level. We are talking with Miguel Torruco, with Conade, with all the governors so that, in one square, simultaneously in all the states, we are together for sports.”

The massive boxing class is planned for April 6, 2025, as stated by President Sheinbaum.

“Just as Canelo has taken our Mexico to all corners of the world, when we talk about boxing we talk about Mexico, we talk about Canelo and now we talk about our champion, Claudia Sheinbaum.” Mauricio commented as he handed her white gloves symbolizing peace.

“We gave her the gloves of peace and our gratitude for always being attentive to young people. Sports is the best way to a dignified life, to a healthy life, to stay off the streets and the WBC, the Sulaimán family represented by my nephew Andres, unconditionally join all the programs in which we can support,” he concluded.
