
Topping the bill is former WBC super featherweight champion Miguel “Alacran” Berchelt who is competing as a lightweight. He is fighting Venezuelan boxer Edixon Perez at the UAT Gym. The fight night will be seen in eighty countries around the world.
Mayor Peña Ortiz said: “For us it’s an amazing opportunity. I want to thank Mr Mauricio Sulaiman and the WBC for helping bring international boxing to our city. It’s history being made.
“This is the biggest city in the State of Tamaulipas and a hub of national and international investment, creating jobs and we want people to start talking about the good things which are happening here. We want you to know that there are a lot of good people and good things happening here.
“We have a lot of history of boxing here and hopefully more in the future. A lot of the fighters boxing on Saturday are from here. Hopefully they will be able to reach championship fights in the future and it’s a great way to have social mobility.”
