Since 2014, the WBC family and running community have combined in a spectacular event that has now become a tradition, namely the “José Sulaimán” Champions Race.
An event that brings together great stars from the ring with Mexican families and experts plus runners in a cold but very happy Sunday morning. Like every year, the race takes place in January in the versions of 6 and 12 kilometers.
A sports party that becomes a personal challenge between ourselves. An event where we can also see hundreds of families together, even with their pets, walking or jogging alongside world champions and….why not, even asking for a photo with them.
During these years, the race of champions “José Sulaimán” has had superstar godparents in charge of ringing the bell at the starting flag, among them we can mention the great idol Julio César Chávez, Roberto Durán, Jorge Arce, Marco Antonio Barrera, Miguel “Piojo” Herrera and Evander Holyfield.
On February 2, 2020, our race was even more special because it was dedicated to the power of women, recognize and lauding great moments of glory, pride and satisfaction.
We were proud to count on the the participation of godmothers Jackie Nava, Zulina Muñoz, Esmeralda Moreno, Mariana Juárez, Alejandra Jiménez, Yessenia Gómez, Yamileth Mercado, Jessica Chávez, Ibeth Zamora; as well as Ana María Torres.
That morning, after completing the second section of the Chapultepec Forest, starting from the Museo del Carcamo, runners, boxers and all those who make the “Jose Sulaiman” Race of Champions possible, we base farewell and see you soon, as every year, with full confidence that we would see each other in the first months of 2021. However, life took us by surprise and the COVID-19 pandemic slammed us against the ropes.
Even though this fight has lasted more than twelve rounds, we are sure that we will soon resurface and knock out this invisible insidious enemy.
From the heart of the WBC, we want to tell all our runners that WE MISS THEM and although January 2021 will not be the month in which we will celebrate the eighth edition of our “José Sulaimán” Race of Champions, we are convinced that we will soon meet again to run and celebrate life.
But remember that this will only be possible if we all do our part and continue to take care of ourselves.
So keep running and fighting; the goal is near!
