
The World Boxing Council is celebrating six decades of history.
Our organization was founded on February 14, 1963 at 1:00 p.m. – in the now vanished Prado Alffer Hotel in Mexico City, with the attendance of representatives from eleven countries.
More than 60 years after it was founded, the World Boxing Council is the most respected and influential sanctioning body in boxing and is made up of 167 countries, whose representatives meet each year in a World Convention, which is held in various parts of the world.
It was on December 5, 1975, when Don Jose Sulaiman was unanimously elected President of the World Boxing Council in Tunisia. From then on, Don Jose transformed and dignified boxing. For more than three decades he not only fought for the sport he loved, but also became the protector and guardian of boxers He transformed boxing with historic reforms.
On February 11, 2014, Mauricio Sulaiman Saldivar was unanimously elected President of the World Boxing Council, following the passing of our beloved Don José. Mauricio, with the same exemplary values which Don José promoted, striving with commitment, honesty, responsibility, respect, solidarity loyalty and friendship, continues to work tirelessly to improve Boxing. This involves consolidating and advancing the WBC towards modernity maintaining it as the most important sanctioning body.
