This past weekend witnessed our friends at the Dubai Boxing Commission (Middle East Professional Boxing) host a digital workshop to gain enhanced knowledge on the best medical practices to implement at Boxing events in Dubai and throughout the Middle East.
The seminar, supported by the World Boxing Council, was led by our dear friend and colleague, Dr. Nitin K. Sethi, one of the leading ‘fight doctors’ in boxing. The New York-based neurologist specializes in brain trauma injuries, among many other facades of modern medicine. The good doctor’s input into boxing is invaluable as Dr. Nitin Sethi supports the WBC Health and Safety Taskforce and is also the Chief Medical officer for the NYSAC.
The workshop discussed all matters of safety protocols for ringside medical committee doctors, changing room inspectors, ring inspectors, and what referees may look for with potential signs of danger to enact the supreme duty of care to protect the health and safety of boxers in the ring.
Furthermore, Dr. Nitin will graciously serve as an honorary medical advisor for the Dubai Boxing Commission to offer his expertise for the betterment of boxing in the Middle East to look to enact the best-placed safety protocols.
The World Boxing Council, its President, and Board of Governors would like to acknowledge the tremendous ongoing contribution of Dr. Nitin to the betterment of medical safety for the sport of boxing in the Middle East, a territory which play a key role in the global expansion of the sport.
