
Today the African Boxing Union convention was opened in the presence of the Minister of Education and Sports, the Honourable Peter Owang, together with delegates from several African countries, ring officials and members of the ABU executive committee.
The President of the Local Federation and Mayor of Kampala took the floor to thank the Minister, the President of the ABU, Mr. Houcine Houichi and all the delegates for this great event: the ABU convention in Uganda.
Then the President of the ABU took the floor and recalled the creation of the ABU with the help of the WBC in 1973 and particularly Don Jose Sulaiman, then Secretary General of the WBC and Colonel Hassine Hamouda, then Director of Public Relations of the sports firm Adidas.
The Minister of Sports gave a speech, thanking the ABU for choosing to host its convention in Kampala and hoping to organize more elite boxing events in Uganda.
