Since its inception in 1963, the WBC has dedicated every effort available to find ways and means to improve all aspects of boxing and make it a safer sport for all participants.
The WBC has broken previously accepted boxing paradigms to make changes with the sole intention of improving the sport. In the process, the WBC has done its utmost to benefit boxers before, during and after their glory days in the ring.
One of the most innovative rules, which is undoubtedly an important incentive for our boxers, is the 10% bonus to the winner of a mandatory fight, which has been decided in a purse offer procedure between promoters. The auctioned amount is divided 90% for both boxers with the corresponding purse split of such fight and 10% is left to be a bonus for the winner of the fight.
That is, the winner, in addition to being recognized as WBC Green and Gold Champion and earning the corresponding percentage of salary, takes 10% of the total purse, thus giving great additional incentive.
Last Weekend at the Center Videotron in Quebec, Canada, Light Heavyweight Champion Artur Beterbiev retained his crown, by knocking out former former super middleweight world champion Callum “Mundo” Smith in the seventh round, earning the 10% bonus in addition to his salary for the fight, meaning he is receiving an additional $211,500 USD.
