Taylor and Serrano face to face in “The Old Smoke”

Undisputed lightweight champion, Irish Katie Taylor, will defend her titles against the featherweight champion, the Puerto Rican Amanda Serrano, on Saturday, April 30, at the legendary Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Both champions, Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano, participated in a promotional press conference in London, England.

Katie Taylor:

“This event is iconic. The fact that pre sales are the second best in Madison Square Garden history says it all.

“This fight is more important than we think, and it proves that perceptions have already changed. Boxing is boxing regardless, and the fight is already iconic as it is.

“I think we’re defending the way we’re really fighting each other in the first place, the best fighting the best. This fight will determine the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, so we are already defending this fight.

“This is the fight I wanted from the beginning, ever since I turned pro, I had my sights set on Serrano. I’m so excited that the fight is happening now; I really think this is the best fight and the most exciting fight in boxing right now.

“The fact that it headlined Madison Square Garden and the advance sales were the second best in boxing history means that this fight is more important than we think and shows that there is a huge appetite among the public for these great women’s fights.”

Amanda Serrano:

“I want to thank London for having me, it is a beautiful city. I am super happy and excited.

“I was finally able to see some light at the end of the tunnel with this fight with Katie Taylor. We are making history and that is what I want to do, I want to continue opening the doors to the new generation that enters the sport.

“I am a woman for equality, and we all talk about equality, at this table several times, we are making history in the Garden by being the first women to lead.
