Marlon Tapales returned to action with a victory over Indonesian Jon Jon Jet in General Santos City, Philippines.
Tapalas had some difficulty reaching the tall, lanky Indonesian, but beyond that, he demonstrated his quality by dominating his opponent.
Tapalas managed to land some right hands and left hooks when he could catch him, but it was a left hook in the third round that ended the fight. He appeared to have broken Jet’s nose, who retired at the end of the round.
With a record of 40-4 (21 KOs), “Nightmare” Tapales won the vacant WBC International Silver Super Bantamweight title.
On the same card, Joey Canoy (24-5-2, 15 KOs) defeated Vietnamese Minh Phat Sam (10-6, 8 KOs) in the tenth round of a fight for the vacant WBC International Strawweight title.
Canoy, tremendously tenacious and tough, never stopped advancing, hitting Sam with everything he had, to show his courage. In the tenth round, Canoy landed combination after combination, forcing the referee to stop the fight.
