IBF Welterweight Champion Errol Spence Jr., conquered the World Boxing Council of Shawn Porter, who he defeated by split decision at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
It was an outright war from start to finish, with Porter firing away with tremendous intensity. Spence met fire with fire, which gave us a great 12 rounds fight which had the undivided attention of the fans.
Porter was knocked down in round eleven with a short left hook, and it certainly made a telling difference.
Judges Rey Danseco and Steve Weisfeld scored identical 116-111 cards, while Larry Hazzard Jr. saw Porter win with a 115-111 card. Jack Reiss was the Referee of the fight, who did a great free flowing job.
After twelve exciting rounds both fighters hugged each other sportingly and with earned mutual respect. With this victory, Spence Jr. improves his record to 26-0, with 21 knockouts, while Porter left his record on 30-3-1, 17 knockouts.
