Saturday night presented by Matchroom Boxing at the Utilita Arena in Sheffield, super lightweight contender Dalton Smith (15-0, 11 KOs) will face seasoned three-time world title challenger José ‘Chon’ Zepeda (37 -4, 28 KOs) for the Silver title of the World Boxing Council.
In his most recent fight, Smith hammered his credentials by defeating Sam Maxwell with an anvil seventh-round one-punch knockout in Sheffield, to add the Commonwealth super-lightweight title to his British title.
Zepeda, from sun kissed California, has challenged for the 140-pound title twice. He came up short on the judges’ scorecards when he faced José Carlos Ramírez for the WBC crown in 2019 before suffering an 11th-round knockout against Regis Prograis for the same title in November 2022.
Both fighters were present and correct at the final press conference in the City of Blades, respectful, polite…but not contrite.
