On Saturday night in Cardiff, USA champion Claressa Shields defended her World Boxing Council middleweight title, easily dominating Slovenia’s Ema Kozin.
During the 10 rounds she displayed her skills far superior to her rival´s, reflected on all three judges’ scorecards by 100-90.
Kozin showed great heart but didn’t have what it took to effectively pierce the Shield. This was Ema´s first defeat in 22 professional fights. However, despite the showcase at the Motorpoint Arena, one of the spectators was acidly critical of Claressa.
WBO champion Savannah Marshall took issue the performance of the two-time Olympian and only two-time undisputed champion.
“If she plans to fight me like that, I’ll mop her up,” she said at the end of the fight, causing Claressa great annoyance and irritation.
Shields now seeks the fight with Marshall, not only to avenge that sole defeat she suffered in boxing, when they were both amateurs, but also to become 160 lb undisputed champion once again.
