The World Boxing Council Silver Featherweight Champion, Sulaiman Segawa (17-4-1, 6 KOs), will defend his title against Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington, a 27-year-old featherweight prospect from Brooklyn, New York, with a record of 12-0 (8 KOs), next Friday, September 27 at The Theater at Madison Square Garden.
Segawa aged thirty three originally from Kampala, Uganda, lives on the outskirts of Washington, DC, and comes to this fight after defeating Ruben Villa by decision last July, winning the WBC Silver title.
Carrington is motivated, especially by the quality of opponents Segawa has faced and defeated, so this will be the most important fight of his career.
This will be Carrington’s third fight in 2024. He knocked out Bernard Angelo Torres in four rounds in February and Brayan De Gracia in eight rounds in June.
Both fighters went face to face at a press conference and reported ready for this important fight.
Carrington commented: “You know I’m always excited, bro. You know we’re here in my hometown. It’s always going to be a great show every time ‘Shu Shu’ steps into the ring, and I’m ready to put on a good performance.
“His fighting style is very interesting. I noticed certain things he brings to the table that are different than your average boxer. That will make it an exciting fight.”
Segawa said: “My last fight was amazing. It was good. So I’m looking to put on another great performance. As the underdog, we always take one round at a time.
“I just need to get in there and show him what I’ve got. It’s that simple. That’s what an underdog does. I don’t feel like he’s underestimating me. I just need to get in the ring and do my job.”
