Saul Álvarez and Avni Yildirim, WBC Peace Ambassadors

Saturday night, WBC super middleweight champion, Saul Álvarez will defend his crown against Turkish challenger Avni Yildirim.

Scholas has designated the Canelo vs. Yildirim fight as “Fight for Peace” as a tribute to inclusion and a continuous effort to build bridges and promote peace in the world.

The BOXVAL-FIGHTING FOR PEACE program has carried the message of His Holiness Pope Francis, with the task of helping children in a search of a better future, regardless of religion, race or color.

So these cards reflect one of the values Scholas’ most important: equality and will be hosted at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.

On the one hand, Avni a devout Muslim and Saúl a practicing Christian who show us that with our diverse beliefs
at the end of the day, we all are fighting for peace and equality.

In this way and formalizing this clash as “Fight for peace”, the President of the WBC Mauricio Sulaimán, presented on behalf of Scholas Ocurrentes, the commemorative plaques sent by the foundation to Canelo Promotions, Matchroom, DAZN, the Florida Commission, to the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami and of course to the protagonists of the card, the current WBC champion, Saúl Álvarez and his challenger Avni Yildirim.

It should be noted that this clash coincides with the mission of Pope Francis, whose historic trip to Iraq on March 5 will be the first by a Pontiff where he will meet with the Shiite leader, Ayatollah Sayyid Ali-Husaymi Al Sistani to sign a special document in benefit of the Human Fraternity and World Peace, giving an example to the world.
