World Boxing Council bantamweight champion, Mexican Alejandro “Peque” Santiago (28-3/14KOs), 28 years old and from Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, has arrived in Japan, at Narita international airport, near Tokyo.
Santiago is ready to face his Japanese challenger and undefeated former world fly and super flyweight champion Junto Nakatani (26-0/19KOs), 26, in a fight that will take place on Saturday, February 24 at the Kokugikan Arena in Tokyo, for the first defense of his WBC bantamweight title, which he won in July 2023 in Las Vegas, by defeating the brave Filipino Nonito Donaire by unanimous decision.
Santiago commented to Japanese journalists upon his arrival: “I recognize that Nakatani is a tough and excellent fighter. But I am a worthy world champion who arrives in Japan ready to defend his title.”
“After my coronation as WBC world bantamweight champion by beating Donaire, I became a fighter with more motivation and a more hungry spirit to continue achieving triumphs and growing my career. I have the ambition to become a unified world Champ.”
