This last Sunday was one of the most important events of the year, the highly anticipated Super Bowl. I am still waiting to see my beloved Cowboys return to Super Sunday. It has been 30 years of frustration, but still have the hopes to be back on top.
The match up was clearly explosive with The small favorite Kansas looking to become the first to win 3 SB in a row and Philadelphia who had a sensational al season; The Philadelphia Eagles were crowned champions, putting to an end the dominance of the Kansas City Chiefs. The WBC and the Wynn hotel in Las Vegas created a special belt that will be awarded to the winners as a special trophy during the Victory celebration party in a couple of weeks.
The work to achieve my father’s dream, the World Cup of professional boxing, has been titanic, and we are already in the final stage of preparation, with the selection of the 32 fighters per division in the featherweight, super lightweight, middleweight and heavyweights, who will compete for the glory of the José Sulaimán Trophy.
This Riyadh Season WBC Boxing Grand Prix is the first ever Professional Boxing World Cup in our sport, which represents not only an opportunity for sporting glory, but also a propelling springboard, to boost and realize the dreams and ambitions of young athletes from all around the world.
The WBC and Riyadh Season have worked tirelessly to make it a reality, thanks to His Excellency Turki Alalshikh.
This is no ordinary competition, as 128 promising young boxers in four divisions (heavyweight, middleweight, super lightweight and featherweight) will step on to a global stage at the very highest level, proudly representing their countries and competing for the chance to boldly achieve greatness.
The Riyadh Season WBC Boxing Grand Prix represents a real opportunity for young athletes, often from humble beginnings, to chart a course towards a better life-destiny through talent, discipline, dedication via the noble art of boxing.
Safety and fairness are paramount. Rigorous medical examinations, anti-doping tests plus an innovative open scoring system, as well as instant replay, 30-second warning and tiebreaker criteria, ensure a level and safe and entertaining competition.
This tournament is the realization of José Sulaimán’s dream coming true. A Boxing World Cup, where young prospects encompassing all corners of the world can compete.
It is a journey, from the first elimination stages to the grand finals, culminating with four champions crowned in each of the divisions.
The tournament will be broadcast globally on the DAZN platform, a magnificent showcase for the future boxing superstars who will compete in this event. A blueprint for the future of our beloved Sport.

Today’s anecdote
It was in 1976, when I was finishing my game in the Lindavista Little League Baseball League, when my dad told me:
“Let’s go, my boy! We have something very important to do.” I went back home with him, and it was precisely to watch the Super Bowl: Dallas against Pittsburgh, the Cowboys lost, but since my dad was a cowboy fan, from that day on I became Cowboy number one fan.
That was my dad, always loyal, dedicated and devoted.
