Newly crowned WBC flyweight champion Julio César ‘Rey’ Martínez is relishing the prospect of defending his Green and Gold Belt ASAP.
The likely date is February 29 and his rival is likely to be Briton Jay Harris (17-0, 9 Ko’s), at The Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas.
Martinez has a record of 15-1 and 12 knockouts. It will be the second battle that “Rey” does, coached by Mauricio Aceves, under the umbrella of Clase y Talento, Canelo Promotions and Matchroom Boxing by Eddy Reynoso, Canelo Álvarez and Eddie Hearn.
Harris, 29, five years older than the world champion, comes from knocking out Paddy Barnes in four rounds and won three wins in 2019. Martinez, won three of the four fights he had last year, in addition to a No Contest against Charlie Edwards, as his first world title opportunity.
