Today, a rather different Green and Gold weekly press conference, as with open arms our smiling WBC super-bantamweight champion, Rey Vargas opened the doors of his gym in Otumba, State of Mexico to celebrate his three years as world champion.
Rey, who conquered the crown on February 25, 2017 in Yorkshire, against Gavin McDonell, has established himself as an impressive and busy world champion, defending his belt on five occasions, fending off tough rivals like Franklin Manzanilla and Tomoki Kameda.
Grateful to all the people who have accompanied him on this journey of destiny, Rey knows that the love foundations: his family, are absolutely fundamental to his sustained success.
His mother, Alejandra and his father Carlos, have facilitated and nurtured the driving force of this young man, inspiring his persistence, ambition dedicated work ethic and sheer self belief.
Rey’s fists were developed and hardened by the astute and sage supervision of his father, who after many years of belief and work to back it up, sees his son become an example for everyone.
Visibly thrilled, Rey offered his recognition and profound gratitude to the men and women instrumental and core to the Green and Gold Belt, stressing they have played a crucial part in him becoming world champion. Among them his doctors Héctor Martínez, Miguel Durán, Said Vistrain, his physical trainer Víctor Manuel plus the staff of Teotihuacán Chiropractic center.
Also his sisters Yesenia, Carla, Alejandra and Fanny and of course, his father and mother who he thanked sincerely, aptly and touchingly.
Always a man of his word, which is his bond, Rey promised to continue working hard, representing with pride and exemplary honor the name of Mexico. During the coming months he will open a gym where he will support young people and children through boxing.
