Saturday June 21, 2003 is remembered in the history of boxing as one of the most important dates in the heavyweight division.
The date corresponds within the Golden pages of professional fists to one of the best battles that two giants have fought, both considered among the finest and most spectacular world champions of our time.
They faced each other in a battle that was sensational. British Lennox Lewis and Ukrainian Vitali Klitschko, both recognized not only for their technical quality, but especially thanks to the fact that in most of their performances they thrilled the fans.
Lewis and Klitschko met at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, a venue that, of course, saw its normal capacity exceeded in terms of the presence of fans, who were not wrong,
It was fast-paced plus pulsating in all rounds, bringing the fans to their feet.
From the first round, the two were going broke.
Everyone expected the knockout, and they weren’t wrong. Klitschko was more resistant and Lewis who showed greater ability and so they left during the middle of the battle when Vitali Klitschko was already fighting at a disadvantage due to an eyelid cut suffered in a previous round,
He was bleeding profusely – I´m not exaggerating – and that made us think about the possibility that took shape seconds before finishing the fifth round.
The two warriors exchanging monumental blows. But it was stopped by the third man, Lou Morett.
They raised the right hand of Lennox Lewis, while the cards of the three judges marked an advantage for the Ukrainian, all with the same 58-56, which no one could doubt, since the judges were none other than Tom Kackzmarek, for our taste the best that has ever existed in the specialty, the other two were James Jen Kin and Pat Russell.
