As a special tribute to, and wonderful present for his sixtieth birthday, Miriam Chavez asked Graphic Artist and Fine Artist Eduardo de la Cruz to create a unique design to adorn a sweatshirt and trousers, jacket plus hoodies for her superstar husband, depicting his status as the Greatest Mexican Boxer of all time.
Eduardo who`s famed for his originality, imagination and discerning flair set to work, came up with various and diverse designs, which were then presented to the Chavez Family, who selected the most magnificent, for a summer season collection to relish. It was a considerable project, because the initial order involves the production of three hundred items, which are available as collectors` items on Julio`s media pages.
The life begins at sixty edition, is in tribute and honour of the greatest Mexican champion of all time. Julio`s career (107-6-2, 85 KO`S) spanned 1981-2005. A multiple World Champion in three divisions, he holds the record for the most titles defences with twenty-seven!
Two hallmark fights which especially stand out as all-time greats, are when he successfully defended his WBC super-lightweight title on March 17th 1990, by knocking out IBF champion Meldrick Taylor, with Referee Richard Steele stopping the fight two seconds before the final bell. Also, the record for the largest attendance, when he fought and TKO`d Greg Haugen at the massive Estadio Azteca, on February 20th 1993, roared on by 136, 274 fans, . Extraordinary and legendary achievements for this dynamo who stands five feet seven and a half inches tall, with a sixty-six and a half inch reach, which he used to brilliant effect.
Julio is also renown for his work in helping people battle and overcome addictions. He has established two clinics which successful treat hundreds of people.
Eduardo said: “It`s especially important because it celebrates Julio`s sixtieth birthday. Miriam asked me to create this as a work of significance. Julio is a superstar. For me he`s like a Padrino, because my first work of art in Boxing was done for him, with a collage of images. Back then, I met him in Las Vegas and I came up to him with that original piece which I`d created. He was surprised and loved it. As for this latest design, it takes pride of place in his wardrobe and it puts his product out there. For me it`s a real honour, because Julio is the greatest and most outstanding Mexican champion of all time, and we have some fabulous fighters.
“Julio told me…life begins at sixty!”
