The Spanish soccer club invited the WBC Youth champion to their match against CD Tenerife to give him a standing ovation and recognize his great story.
Bruno Macho, a 22-year-old boxer, won the WBC Intercontinental Youth Bantamweight title. But, independent of his title, Macho has a remarkable story.
At the age of 3, Bruno was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. He spent 12 years fighting this, until finally, at the age of 15, doctors gave him a clean bill of health and Macho, valuing his health more than anything else, took up sports.
For a period of his life, he dedicated himself to soccer until, like many, a knee injury forced him off the field; but having beaten leukemia, a knee injury would not prevent him from continuing in the sport. It was then that the native of Santander, Cantabria, Spain, discovered what would become his true love, boxing.
But the road in boxing would not be easy either. As explained in the documentary presented by Movistar +, his mother opposed Bruno to continue in this discipline, the fear of a bad blow to the spleen or liver was what she feared the most.
But he did not give up, taking Sergio “Niño” García as inspiration, Macho was convinced that he could achieve his dream of becoming a champion in pugilism.
The rest is the story Bruno Macho is writing. At only 22 years old, he has already won his first title and is a promise of his generation.
On Sunday, March 16, Real Racing de Santander, the team from the region where the boxer grew up and came of age, paid tribute to him by inviting him to a match. The public gave him a long and deserved standing ovation.
