In admirable support of Canelo vs. Charlo at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, the undefeated Jesús “Mono” Ramos Jr., fights forceful Erickson “Hammer” Lubin, for the World Boxing Council Silver super welterweight title.
Ramos (20-0, 16 KOs), a capable southpaw who at 22 has yet to reach his zenith, defeated unbeaten Joey Spencer in March, knocking him down in the first round before stopping him in the seventh to win by knockout.
Originally from Casa Grande, Arizona, Ramos notched back-to-back 10-round unanimous decisions over Brian Mendoza and Javier Molina in 2021, which he followed up by defeating Luke Santamaría and Vladimir Hernández in 2022. Ramos has gained recognition with KO standouts, stopping seven of his last 10 opponents, showing his skills and proving his power to end his fights early.
Lubin, 27 (25-2, 18 KOs), returned to the ring in June to deliver an impressive fifth-round knockout of veteran Luis Arias, who had never before been stopped.
Lubin’s previous outing saw him go toe-to-toe in one of the best fights of 2022, as he traded knockdowns with fellow contender Sebastian Fundora on SHOWTIME in April 2022. Heading into the Fundora fight, Lubin had put together an impressive run winner of six fights since a loss to then-unified and now undisputed 154-pound champion Jermell Charlo in 2017, a streak that included wins over Jeison Rosario, Terrell Gausha and Ishe Smith.
This Friday, both men passed the weigh-in, Ramos Jr. was 153.4 pounds, while Lubin was 153.5 pounds.
