On December 26, the then-vacant WBC light flyweight title was contested. Panya “Petchmanee CP Freshmart” Pradabsri and Carlos “CCC” Canizales were chosen to compete for the 108-pound belt.
Panya was coming off a WBC flyweight championship, and Canizales was the WBC light flyweight silver champion.
That fight was a very close one that Pradabsri won by majority decision. On January 20, the WBC ruled a rematch for the belt.
The fight was scheduled for August 1, 2025, at the Poliedro in Caracas, Venezuela. The first fight took place in Bangkok, Thailand.
“Yes, it’s fair (for the rematch to be in Venezuela). The first fight was in Thailand, a very close fight, a very good fight. The rematch was ordered, and everything led to the negotiations ending so that the fight would be in Venezuela,” said WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman to ESPN Knock Out.
The WBC President is very honored to return to Venezuela, saying, “Greetings to all my friends in Venezuela. I’ll be asking for some arepas when we’re there, and we’re going to celebrate a World Boxing Council fight.”
Panya “Petchmanee CP Freshmart” Pradabsri comes into the fight with a record of 44-2 and 27 KOs.
Carlos “CCC” Canizales has a record of 27-3-1 with 19 KOs.
