The World Boxing Council superlight champion, José Carlos Ramirez, and former champion Viktor Postol, will clash next February 2 at the Mission Hills Resort in Haikou, China, in a fight promoted by Top Rank.
Ramirez (25-0, 17 KOs), 27, of Avenal, California, unified two 140-pound world titles with a knockout in the sixth round over Maurice Hooker on July 27. He hoped to make his mandatory defense against Postol by year end, but he injured his left hand and his return was delayed.
Postol (31-2, 12 KOs), 35, from Ukraine, comes from defeating Mohamed Mimoune in Las Vegas on April 27 of last year in a title eliminator, to become Ramírez’s mandatory challenger.
Postol sent his pre-weighing of 30 days reporting 146.2 pounds, in compliance with the regulations of the World Boxing Council, seeking to recover the WBC crown.
According to the WBC’s rules, 30 days before a fight, fighters cannot weigh 10% above the division limit.
