World Boxing Council welterweight champion Shawn Porter of the United States and Cuban contender Yordenis Ugas held a media training at the Churchill Boxing Club in Santa Monica, California.
This is prior to the fight that they will hold on Saturday night at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
SHAWN PORTER
“I feel great, this is exactly where I want to be. I cannot wait to get in the ring. Last week was the strongest week of training camp, and everything went very well, so here we are.
“I’ve seen a lot of Ugas fights, even going back to his amateur days, I know what he can bring to the ring, he throws punches like a Cuban schooled fighter, and when they throw their punches, they do it a little differently. My eyes will be focused for that.
“We’re in a beautiful place right now and training in Washington DC was great. It was my first camp with Barry Hunter and the Headbangers Gym. Getting to the ring and training with Lamont Peterson, whom I’ve admired for a long time, was really special. .
“I do not think Ugas has fought at the top level as a professional. Even though I do not underestimate him, I know he is training to be prepared for this kind of environment.”
YORDENIS UGAS
“We’ve just been working the same way we always work and we’re ready to fight. I am facing a top-level fighter and a legitimate champion. So I am here ready to contest and ready to win this world title. This is going to be a great match.
“Shawn Porter is a great fighter and a strong guy, we both trained hard, so we’re going to stand in the ring and see who’s going to go back up first.
“I’m expecting a very tough fight, Shawn is known for this. That’s how he became a world champion, but I’m a world-class fighter, and I want to become a champion, so I’m going to give absolutely everything in the ring.
“I have my game plan and I know what I have to do. Shawn is going to look strong, but I am stronger.
“It’s a good thing that I come from the national team of Cuba, because I have to fight against all styles from all kinds of countries. There are many tough guys, and I’ve seen what everyone can contribute. I will be a green and gold world champion.”
