WBC super featherweight champion O’Shaquie Foster is part of a campaign to support low-income students, along with the Golden Chick fast food restaurant chain.
Foster was crowned world champion by defeating Mexican Rey Vargas by decision on February 11, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, putting his hometown of Orange, California, on the map.
Foster is looking to give back to the community’s support of him, by hosting the SCHOOL SLAMDOWN event, Back-to-School Drive, on August 5 from noon at the Golden Chick, 1716 N. 16th St. in Orange.
Gifts and more than 200 meals and 100 backpacks with school supplies will be distributed at the event. Foster will also be wearing signed boxing gloves and gear.
He also plans to hold raffles to raise funds to continue supporting students.
“We are going to have a great event for children who have to go back to school. This is something I’ve always wanted to do. I feel like Orange made me stronger as it’s a small town and not many people make it. I want to see a lot of people in our community grow and succeed in life,” Foster said.
