On This Day… May 9

1964.- Cuban Ultiminio Ramos defeated American Floyd Robertson in a great fight in Accra, Ghana. With this victory Ultimino defended his WBC featherweight title.

1970.- Mexican Vicente Saldivar defeated French Johnny Famechon by decision, at the PalaEur in Rome, Italy. In this fight the WBC featherweight title was at stake.

1976.- At the Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium in Bayamon, Puerto Rican Esteban De Jesús won the WBC lightweight title, defeating Japanese Ishimatsu Suzuki by decision.

1983.- At Hilton Hotel in Caracas, Venezuelan Rafael Orono defended his WBC super flyweight title, defeating Mexican Raúl Valdez by decision.

1992.- In combat between North Americans, Terry Norris knocked out Meldrick Taylor in 4 rounds, in Las Vegas, Nevada. In this fight the WBC super welterweight title was at stake.

2003.- At Plaza de Toros La Cubierta de Leganés, Madrid, Javier Castillejo knocked out the Colombian Diego Castillo in the first round. With this win he retained his WBC super welterweight title.
