1976 – Carlos Palomino traveled all the way to Wembley to challenge John H. Stracey the man who defeated legendary Jose “Mantequilla” Napoles to become World Boxing Council welterweight champion of the world. John H. Stracey started boxing well, however the challenger’s body attack took its toll and he was stopped in the 12th round in a duel scheduled for 15 rounds.
1979 – Heavyweight Legend Larry Holmes defeated Mike Weaver via TKO in 12 rounds. Weaver was down once in the 11th round. This was Holmes´ 3rd title defense.
1985 – Sot Chitalada defended his WBC flyweight title after after drawing with Mexican Gabriel Bernal. They met 3 times. Sot Chitalada won the first and third one. The 2nd match ended as a draw.
1989 – Daniel Zaragoza defeated Paul Banke in the first of their three macthes. Zaragoza obtained the victory via split decision.
2002 – Marco Antonio Barrera – Erik Morales
Marco Antonio Barrera defeated Erik Morales to win the WBC featherweight title via points. The Mexican legends fought three epic battles. They split the victory on the first two fights, giving Morales his first professional loss.
Barrera followed with another decision in the rubber match to hand Morales his second loss in 49 fights.
After starring one of the greatest rivalries in boxing history, Erik Morales and Marco Antonio Barrera finally became good friends some years ago.
