On this Day… February 7th

1990.- Japanese Hideyuki Ohashi conquered the WBC straw-weight title, by knocking out former Korean champion Jeum Hwan Choi in the ninth round. The bout took place at the Korakuen Hall.

1997.- Heavyweight legend Lennox Lewis, re-gained the WBC crown and avenge his first loss defeating American Oliver McCall . The fight took place at the Hilton Hotel in Las Vegas. Oliver refused to respond to the summons of the bell.

2009.-  Armenian Vic Darchinyan defeated Mexican Jorge “Travieso” Arce by technical knockout in 11 rounds, in Anaheim, California. In this fight the WBC super flyweight title was at stake.

2020.- WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman, was greeted and hosted  by Dr. Laurentino Cortizo, President of the Republic of Panama in a special meeting which was cordial, friendly and productive.

One of the most memorable moments was when Mauricio presented Dr. Laurentino a famous Green and Gold Belt, due to his dedicated efforts promoting sports.
