1983.- American Marvelous Marvin Hagler knocked out British Tony Sibson in the sixth round, in Worcester, Massachusetts. With this victory Hagler defended his WBC middleweight title.
1984.- American Thomas Hearns defended his WBC super welterweight title, defeating Italian Luigi Minchillo by decision, in Detroit, Michigan.
1989.- Thai Napa Kiatwanchai defended his WBC straw title, defeating Indonesian John Arief by decision. The match took place at the Provincial Stadium in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.
1989.- French Rene Jacquot was crowned WBC super welterweight champion, after defeating American Donald Curry by decision, in a match held at the Palais des Sports in Grenoble, France.
1990.- James Buster Douglas starred in one of the biggest surprises in history, when he knocked out the legendary Mike Tyson in 10 rounds, in Tokyo, Japan. With this victory Douglas was crowned WBC heavyweight champion.
2000.- At the Mahachai Villa Arena in Samut Sakhon, Thailand, Mexican José Antonio “Jaguar” Aguirre, defeated former Thai champion Wandee Singwangcha, in a great fight where he won the WBC straw-weight title.
2011.- Japanese Kazuto Ioka knocked out Thai Oleydong Sithsanerchai in the fifth round, defending his WBC straw-weight title, in a fight held in Osaka.
2014.- Mauricio Sulaimán Saldivar was elected President of the World Boxing Council, after the passing of our beloved Don José Sulaimán, who led the WBC for thirty-eight years with tenacity, pride and love. Mauricio received 26 votes and the confidence of members of the WBC Board of Governors from around the world, being unanimously elected President of the body.
