The WBC has created a series of special and unique belts in order to reward and recognize the fights that have transcended excellence in the history of boxing, a special iconic trophy that Mexico and boxing gives to the fighters who face each other on the two most representative dates for Mexico, May 5 (Battle of Puebla) and September 16 (Independence Day).
The WBC has worked hand in hand with several entities highlighting their cultures through Mexican artisans who have transformed the WBC belt into true pieces of art, each one representing the best of their culture.
To recognize the most important fight of September, the WBC presents the “TAMAULIPAS II” belt which will be awarded to the winner of the fight between the World Boxing Council super-middleweight champion, Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez against the Puerto Rican, Edgar Berlanga, on September 14.
This fight is extremely special for several reasons, including the fact that #CaneloBerlanga adds a new chapter to the Puerto Rico vs. Mexico boxing rivalry, in addition to the fact that the fight will be held in one of the most important boxing venues: The T-Mobile Arena of Las Vegas in September.
For this special occasion, the WBC is presenting a #CaneloBerlanga promo on one of the largest screens in the world: “The WTC Mexico City Building”.
The World Trade Center in Mexico City is one of the most emblematic skyscrapers in the city. This iconic building can be seen for 10 kilometers, but also from air by flights arriving in Mexico City. The screen has an area of 5000 square meters and the broadcast of this outstanding promo will continue during the days leading up to Saturday night.
