O’Leary clause with “The Lion”
Pierce O’Leary will fight for the first major title of his career, the WBC International super lightweight, at London’s 02 Arena on November 26, to be broadcast live on BT Sport.
O’Leary faces Emmanuel Mungandjela, known as the Lion, for the vacant WBC International title, on a card headed by Zach Parker vs. John Ryder. O’Leary’s iBox Gym teammates Dennis McCann and Sam Noakes are also taking part, both aiming for Commonwealth titles. WBC Silver middleweight champion Hamzah Sheeraz will clash against River Wilson-Bent with the Commonwealth crown also on the line.
“I’m going straight for a big title,” said the 22-year-old Dubliner. “In my first fight for Frank Warren, I was going to contest the WBC Youth title, but it was hard to get an opponent under 23, so now this opportunity has come up and I’m not going to waste it.”
His Namibian opponent has a record of 16-3-1 (7 KOs) and is on a 14-fight win streak. with three losses and a draw early in his career, it will be a tough test for O’Leary.
