African boxing will experience another historic night when the undefeated David Mwale (10-0, 5KO) faces Michael Decardi Nelson (8-1-1, 6KO) for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) International Bantamweight Championship, in an event that is part of the WBC’s global program to commemorate the Year of Africa.
This is a fight between two talented young men. Local 26-year-old David Mwale seeks to maintain his perfect record and also win the international bantamweight belt. He will face a very young opponent, but with no less hunger for victory, in Michael Decardi Nelson of Ghana, who at just 22 years old wants to get back on track after suffering his first defeat last November.
The fight will take place at the 118-pound bantamweight limit, with the vacant international belt at stake. Both boxers represent young generations looking to make their mark in the region and climb the WBC world rankings.
The World Boxing Council (WBC) declared 2025 as the Year of Africa, an initiative aimed at honoring the rich history, achievements, culture, and impact of the African continent in the world of boxing. Throughout the year, special events have been organized in different African countries, recognizing local talent and connecting boxing communities with the international stage.
The fight between Mwale and Nelson, to be held in Lusaka, Zambia, is a fundamental part of this series of activities. The evening represents the competitive spirit, identity, and pride of African boxing, which continues to produce world-class athletes and generate fervor among its fans.
The fight supervisor will be WBC Vice President Houcine Houichi.
The official weigh-in took place this Friday without any problems:
* David Mwale: 53.524 kg
* Michael Decardi Nelson: 52.8 kg
