Former Venezuelan boxer Francisco “Morochito” Rodriguez received the recognition of the World Boxing Council in a celebration this Friday, fifty years of conquering the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Mexico 1968.
At the headquarters of the National Sports Institute in La Vega district, Caracas, Venezuela, the event was held to honor “Morochito”, who on October 26, 1968 defeated South Korean Ji Young-Ju to give Venezuela his first gold Olympic medal.
World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman, sent “Morochito” through the WBC representative in Venezuela, Nicolas Hidalgo, an heartfelt letter and gifts, to recognize this feat.
Minutes later, the boxer went to the Venezuelan Olympic Committee, where he was presented with an homage and a boxing day was held with the support of the WBC Amateur committee.
