Mikey and Jessie ponder a tactical battle

Linked by telephone and poised for February 29, at the Ford Center, Texas, Mikey Garcia and Jessie Vargas, pledge a battle of strategies for the WBC Diamond belt  in the welterweight division.

Jessie Vargas, was first on the line,  confident of getting the victory, saying he`s working harder than ever, but calmer and more focused at this stage of his career.

“I recognize that Garcia is a very dangerous rival, he has the experience but I am just preparing for that, you will have two warriors face to face.

I have worked with my nutritionist and my physical trainer, I already know my body and how it works, so the weight will not be a problem, I am fast and strong. Today I can tell you that the basis of victory is to train, focus and let the body rest. I want to belong to the great WBC family and what better than becoming a Diamond champion.”

Mikey Garcia said that the work in the gym will take him to the path of success, as he has sparred with boxers who have take him to the next level. He says he`ll be giving away height, size and reach but it`ll be a tactical fight, and he`s the smarter.

“I am a fighter who has been able to listen to his body, I have gone up and down in divisions but always taking care and watching that my abilities, my strength and my speed are not affected. I feel very good as welterweight with more gained muscle and I am convinced that that night I will impose my experience and skill. Jessie is a tough fighter, who will always seeks to impose his power, but I am ready for whatever comes.

“I am not looking for the knockout, I will go up and take the fight according to the strategy we have planned but if I find an opportunity to connect it, I will go for it, I won’t hesitate. It will be a great fight.”
