Yamileth Mercado (18-2-0, 5 ko’s) notched a victory, defending her World Boxing Council super bantamweight championship, defeating Angelica “Mocuishle” Rascón (10-1-0, 2 ko’s) by unanimous decision.
It was the main event of the card presented by 2M Promotions and Zanfer this Saturday at the “Rodrigo M. Quevedo” gym in the City of Chihuahua.
Rascón surprised in the first four rounds with her speed and aggression, backed up by clusters of punches, particularly long straight rights.
In the fifth there was an accidental clash of heads leaving Angelica with a cut under the right eye. “Yeimi” went into attack mode, wobbling her with a crunching left right combination to the head and then going to the body. It changed the tempo and the course of the fight.
In the sixth Referee Abigail Perez deducted a point from a blood soaked Angelica for holding, as Yeimi advanced with a scrappy two fisted attack.
Another clash of heads in the seventh, left Angelica with a deep crescent shaped cut just below her right eyebrow, which needed careful examination by the ring Doctor before she was allowed to continue.
Yeimi was herself deducted a point in the ninth for holding. Yet her better preparation was providing dividends. Angelica had noticeably tired and was fading. Her once stinging right was missing the target as she was waving it ineffectively.
With this victory Yeimi successfully defended her Green and Gold Belt for the second time. Judge Erika Contreras scored 98-90, Judge Alejandro Camacho scored 97-91 and Judge Huber Corral scored 96-92, all in favor of Yamileth Mercado, in a fight of two halves.
