Kameda Promotions formally announced the WBC strawweight title rematch, which will headline an ABEMA-TV event on March 30 from the Aichi Sky Expo in Nagoya, Aichi, Japan.
The rematch will take place one year after Jerusalem’s road win to become strawweight champion for the second time.
Tokyo’s Shigeoka (9-1, 5 KOs) lost a close fight to Filipino Jerusalem (23-3, 12 KOs). Two knockdowns made the difference in the decision for the 30-year-old Filipino, who dropped Shigeoka in the third and sixth rounds.
Jerusalem made a successful defense of his title with a twelve-round unanimous decision over then-undefeated Luis Castillo on September 22 in Mandaluyong City, Philippines.
Shigeoka’s loss marked the beginning of a year to forget for his family. Ginjiro Shigeoka (11-1, 9 KOs), Yudai’s younger brother, suffered his first defeat and lost his IBF title after being surprisingly knocked out in the ninth round by Filipino Pedro Taduran (17-4-1, 13 KOs) on July 22 in Shiga, Japan.
Yudai Shigeoka has since returned to winning ways with a ten-round unanimous decision victory over Samuel Salva (20-2, 13 KOs) on August 24 in Osaka.
