Boxing is gradually returning to South Africa with the proper security measures, and last Saturday the second boxing card during the Covid-19 pandemic took place in Soweto, Gauteng, South Africa.
In a very good fight, welterweight Thulani Mbenge returned after more than a year of absence, defeating the complicated Kuvesa Katembo, with scorecards of 100-91, 98-92 and 98-93, to conquer the ABU (African Boxing Union), affiliated with the World Boxing Council.
Mbenge began the fight by boxing cautiously but dominating with his powerful jab. His opponent, from the Democratic Republic of Congo, was brave in trying to counter the local fighter without much success.
Mbenge, who has major victories over former champions Diego Chaves and Miguel Vázquez, did a good job managing to improve his record to 16 wins with 12 knockouts and a single loss.
