World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaimán, presented belts to the winners of the first edition of the national amateur tournament “Gimnasio Nuevo Jordán” during the traditional weekly press conference Martes a Café.
The Tournament was aimed at young people over 18 years old, in the Elite Classified category, in the flyweight, bantamweight, featherweight, lightweight and welterweight divisions. The winners of each weight received a cash prize, as well as a medal and a WBC Amateur belt.
The awards and recognitions were presented by Mauricio Sulaimán, Miguel Ángel González, Juan “Guerito de Tepito” Pérez, Yessica Nery Plata, Pipino Cuevas, as well as Senator Lorenia Iveth Valles.
“We thank the WBC and Mauricio Sulaimán for supporting us with the realization of this sport. We are a family and together with the political leaders we are sure that we will advance in this sport that we love so much,” said Bladimir Juárez, sports director of the tournament.
Mauricio said: “I am happy because stars are born from these tournaments. Everything starts at the amateur level, in the Nuevo Jordán gymnasium, a historic venue, awarding the winners is very gratifying for us.”
World champion Yessica Nery Plata gave emotional words of congratulations to the winners: “I congratulate the winners of this tournament. It is a small step, but they are on the right path to reach their goal of becoming world champions. I want to tell them that with effort and sacrifice they will always be able to achieve their goals.”
