WBC female super flyweight Champion, Guadalupe “Lupita” Martinez, vividly remembers what she had to overcome, to conquer the title she still holds today.
Brushing aside any doubts, she stepped up and fought the fight of her life against formidable then champion, Zulina Muñoz.
Coincidently and fatefully it was Yessica “Kika” Chavez, who’s her next rival, who encouraged her to accept that big fight back then in order to reach the zenith, via Zulina.
“At one point in my career I said no to the fight with (Zulina Muñoz)” La Loba “because I felt that something was missing, I did not feel one hundred percent ready, I used to say that the day I fight her will be because I’m at my very best.”
“The one who encouraged me the most was Yessica “La Kika” Chávez, I had the pleasure and honor of being helped by” Kika “Chávez in other camps and she was the one who insisted I must believe in myself saying you can do it Lupita, if you think you can, you will defeat Zulina!”
Another person who helped Lupita a lot to reach the world championship fight was Ibeth ” Roca” Zamora.
” I have the pleasure of personally knowing” La Roca “, she has helped me sparring.”
A good preparation gave her the chance to achieve her dream recalling: “I consider myself very strong mentally. If you tell me that I cannot, I will achieve it whatever it takes.”
Today, Yessica is the challenger to Lupita’s green and gold belt. An extraordinary full circle progression from being her most enthusiastic supporter, to her sparring partner and now her strongest rival.
Martinez (18-9 and 6 KO’s) against Chávez (30-4-3 and 4 KO’s) will be the main event of the card presented by Promociones del Pueblo in association with Cancun Boxing by Pepe Gómez and Boxing Time Memo Rocha; the event that will take place in the Regional Center of Culture, Art and Sport Las Americas in Ecatepec in the State of Mexico.
