This morning, during “Coffee Tuesday” World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaimán presented the Green and Gold Belt that recognizes Marilyn Badillo as WBC Fecarbox light fly monarch, a title that she won defeating Edith Flores via UD in a fight held in Puebla.
For Marilyn this is the first of many Green and Gold belts that she aims for, and with tears in her eyes, the new monarch received her belt, crystallizing the dream that began 11 years ago when she started boxing .
“Today is a very important day for me. Today all those hours on the way to the gym are rewarded, the hours of training, the sacrifices, the effort, the discipline.
“I have many people to thank, but I especially want to thank my family, my company MX Promotions and the WBC. They implicitly trusted me and stuck with me , even though many said that I would never do it. But LOOK! Here I am receiving my first belt. Today, I confirm that dreams come true! It is only a matter of passionately seeking them and NEVER giving up!”
Marilyn, who is about to graduate as an Industrial Engineer, is convinced that the new era of women’s boxing is coming. She promised to continue working to soon contest the absolute world title that is held by Yessenia Gómez.
