Jesse Rodríguez, super flyweight champion of the World Boxing Council, is currently a reference in boxing and one of the main attractions in the small weights.
At just 24 years old and with a brilliant career, he seeks to continue reaping important triumphs to grow, develop and expand his legacy.
He has been promoted by Matchroom Boxing and Eddie Hearn for his last seven fights.
“At one point, no one wanted to book me,” Rodriguez said. “Eddie gave me the opportunity to fight on his card in Fresno, and by the next fight I had already signed with Matchroom, and that was the fight with Carlos Cuadras. From that moment on, my life changed.”
It all seemed to happen fast, as fast as it can happen in boxing, when “Bam” defeated Jose Alejandro Burgos on the preliminary card of a small show at Chukchansi Park in Fresno, California, in October 2021, and within four months he headlined a big event against Cuadras with a vacant super-flyweight belt on the line.
Most boxing fans are aware of Bam Rodriguez’s journey to this point, including, most recently, a impressive knockout over future Hall of Famer Juan Francisco Estrada in June.
Rodriguez, 20-0 (13 KOs), recently signed a new promotional contract with Matchroom ahead of his Nov. 9 defense against Pedro Guevara, 42-4-1 (22 KOs), at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, where Rodriguez will share the card with Jaron “Boots” Ennis, who will face Karen Chukhadzhian.
“Loyalty is everything in boxing; if it’s not there, you have nothing,” Rodriguez said. “Eddie gave me the opportunity, and I know he’s looking out for me, and that’s why I feel at home at Matchroom.
I have to get through this fight first. I feel very motivated to fulfill the goal of being undisputed champion in 2025. I’m taking this fight as seriously as ever, training hard and with a lot of motivation, I have an excellent team by my side and if I can get the win, we can talk about 2025 later.”
Eddie Hearn commented: “His rise to the top 10 of the pound-for-pound list is something we are very proud of and there is still much more to come. Jesse only wants the biggest and best fights and I don’t see anything stopping him from winning more world titles in higher weight classes.”
