The Italian Boxing Federation (Federazione Pugilistica Italiana) has adopted “Open Scoring” for all national title fights.
The first Italian championship with Open Scoring was held last week with clear and excellent results
The fight was for the Italian heavyweight title in Scandicci (Florence-Firenze) Saturday, September 28, under the promotion of Rosanna Conti Cavini.
Eduardo Giustini was crowned national heavyweight champion after defeating former champion Gianmarco Cardillo in an exciting fight with scores of 98-93 and 98-92 on 2 occasions.
For the first time in Italy the “Open Scoring” was announced and it was a great success, having great acceptance from the public, press and those involved.
At the moment in Italy the open scoring is announced at the end of the third and seventh round. A small variation is being studied to ensure that the sixth round is used and not the seventh, given that all the national championships in Italy are held over the ten round distance.
The WBC highlights the great work of the Italian Boxing Federation (Federazione Pugilistica Italiana) in supporting the open scoring system, which has meant an important advance in boxing, as it provides extra motivation for fighters by allowing them to know the judges’ scores during the fight.
