World Boxing Council No. 2 ranked bantamweight and Silver champion Australian Jason Moloney (22-2, 18 KOs) aims to face No. 1 bantamweight Thai Nawaphon Kaikanha (51-1-1, 41 KOs) in a eliminatory bout, for a chance to face current division champion Nonito Donaire from the Philippines.
“I want the WBC title, that’s every boxer’s dream,” Moloney said. “So if that means facing Nonito Donaire, so be it. It will be a great fight against a great champion. First of all, I have to beat whoever they put me in front of, and he seems to be a 51-1 fighter from Thailand so that’s my goal from now on, but fighting Donaire was on my Christmas list! ”
“Kaikanha is a quality fighter, you don’t get to # 1 in the WBC, if you’re not, that’s the opponent I must defeat so that I can put myself in a position to fight Donaire.
“My Dragon Fire Boxing team led by Tony Tolj and Top Rank is looking to do that fight this year. Whether in Australia or the United States, I am easy. I will travel anywhere to fight as I have shown before, and I will go wherever it takes to become a WBC Green and Gold champion”.
