Japanese Tomoki “Mexicanito” Kameda is methodically counting down the days, to finally get his chance to again confront Mexican Rey Vargas, this time on the night of July 13 in California, where the Aztec will be defending his World Boxing Council super bantamweight belt.
“We have worked a lot, there are things that are not forgotten, as he defeated me 12 years ago in the amateurs. It was a match we dreamed of winning, but today we have a new opportunity to be champion. Back then it was just an amateur fight, but today I`m going for a world championship and this time night victory will mine,” promises a grimly focused Kameda..
With much of his career taking place in Mexico with the support of manager Rubén Lira, he`s confident that night he`ll be conquering the green and gold title of the World Boxing Council.
“It is a great ambition for me to get the Green and Gold Belt. It`s a very important belt. I`m interim champion and we`ve worked so very hard to become absolute champion. The opportunity presents itself and I do not intend to fail. That belt will be something very special for the Kameda family.”
