José Ramírez prepares to return…again!
World Boxing Council super lightweight champion Jose Carlos Ramírez trains for the third time to defend his crown once.
Ramirez’s fight against Ukrainian Viktor Postol, his mandatory rival, was postponed twice due to the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic. First on February 1 in China and again on May 9 in Fresno, California.
Now, as the boxing calendar recovers after the Nevada State Athletic Commission authorized Top Rank to begin organizing boxing, Ramirez is considering a return to the ring against Postol in the second or third week of July.
Top Rank is gearing up to host multiple shows in July, and the plan is to provide one of the most important venues for the 140-pound champion. For this, another goal is for Postol (31-2, 12 KOs) to return to the United States to resume his training with coach Freddie Roach and be able to challenge Ramirez (25-0, 17 KOs) in July.
Earlier this week, Chad Wolf, Interim secretary of homeland security for the United States, said the country would lift travel restrictions for certain professional athletes to enter the United States.
