Jose Carlos Ramirez is hunting down the BIG FIGHTS
By James Blears
Undefeated World Boxing Council super lightweight champion Jose Carlos Ramirez who`s come to Mexico to receive his Green and Gold waist and wrist belts says he`s aiming for the big fights.
The wrist belt is given because its difficult to lug around the bigger version on a daily basis, but the champion was as proud as punch when WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman presented him with both. He said:
“The sport chooses you. You don`t choose the sport. I will do everything required to be a good world champion and I want the opportunity to be part of the big fights and part of the history of Boxing. I would love to unify the titles. That would take me up to the next level to become an international star.”
The film depicting Jose`s many triumphs clearly showed his prodigious body punching capabilities, somewhat reminiscent of Julio Cesar Chavez. He grinned replying: “Body punching has always been a key for me since the amateurs and I had a long amateur career, being an Olympian myself. Body punching has always been part of my craft and it`s part of me. It`s a good tool to have especially if the fight goes twelve rounds!”
Jose has used his fame from boxing to help with water, farming and combatting cancer projects in his California home region. He said: “I`m honored for the opportunity the United States has given me. But what motives me most is the expressions from the people. It`s knowing the people, relating to the people, being part of the people, being them and making sure that they can see themselves in me as well. That brings unity, peace and hope.
“Concerning my boxing, I`m keeping myself grounded. There are a lot of opportunities and openings there, as I`m still a young fighter. I don`t forget who I am and where I come from. It`s my motivation and my hunger and that will to continue, because at this level, you must have that hunger.”
