José Carlos Ramirez- hungry to keep improving
World Boxing Council super lightweight champion, José Carlos Ramirez, intends to defend his position as the best 140-pounder in the world.
Ramirez will make the second defense of his title against Jose “Chon” Zepeda on Sunday, February 10 at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California. Ramirez vs. Zepeda will headline a special ESPN / ESPN Deportes show, which will begin at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT. Ramirez will auction off his uniform, gloves, and sneakers that he will use in the fight, plus proceeds will benefit the Community Cancer Institute in Clovis, California. A part of all ticket sales will also be donated to the Community Cancer Institute.
Ramirez defended his title on September 14 in a “Fight of the Year Contender” against Antonio Orozco, managing to score a pair of falls and finally winning by unanimous decision. He met with Los Angeles media, assessing his second fight, guided by coach Robert Garcia
“Our link is great, my confidence is growing with every fight, he’s getting the best of me, I’m still a young champion, and I’m just going to keep improving with every fight. This has been the best camp of my career. He’s bringing the fighter out of me and he’s working on the things I need to improve on. ”
About José Zepeda
“I’m more concerned about what I myself bring to the table, but Zepeda is a good fighter. He`s 30-1 and he’s a solid left-handed boxer. My job is to neutralize him by taking control of the fight. I’m still a hungry fighter and Zepeda will help me grow as a fighter. ”
On potential clashes, including Regis Prograis
“It’s going to happen, it’s just a matter of when it will happen. We both want to fight, when this is over, we can make it come true. Right now, I have a job to do, and I’d like to unify against Maurice Hooker, but my current focus is Zepeda. I will beat him to make those other fights come true. ”
